In 1988 I bought a used GTI. It was black. After a few months of ownership I swore I'd never buy another black car. But... every car I bought over the next 14 years was black! I thought the Ghia would finally break that string. Then I was going through some paperwork on the car and came across this. Did you notice what color they claim the factory painted this car originally?

Contrary to all evidence found on the car, VW claims this thing was originally black. I find it hard to believe this car was originally black? I don't remember my dad finding ANY traces of black when it was being worked on. I know I've never found any.

I do know he got this after the car was painted since I remember he chose the "paprika" color to avoid covering the "original paint" on the dash.

Note that this document is now 25 years old. I've seen pictures of newer ones and they look different. I would expect the information to be the same though? I've thought about ordering another one to see what I get...
